Professional and Experience Sharing Meeting

October 19, 2018

On October 19, 2018, the International Department of International Relations of the International Alatoo University organized a professional and academic experience sharing meeting with Mr. Ronal Lu, who has BA in Public Policy from Stanford University; Political Philosophy from University of Oxford, MA in Political and Comparative Sociology from Stanford University and MPA in Global Governance from Harvard Kennedy School. The meeting was organized in the framework of "China: economy, politics & foreign policy" course to provide senior students an opportunity to discuss PRC 's Central Governance and the Governance beyond the center with Mr. Ronald Lu who has worked for Hong Kong SAR Government since 2010 as Special Assistant, Chief Executive's Office, Political assistant to Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs & Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs.

In the first part of the meeting, Mr. Ronald Lu shared his academic experience and how has his professional path has changed after finishing secondary school and the contribution of the university courses to his career prospects in Public Policy.

In the second part of the meeting he shared his professional experience how did he put academic knowledge into practice at the   Hong Kong SAR Government and the reasons why did he decide to come back to school and study MPA at Harvard Kennedy School.

In the third Q&A part, students have asked questions about his political career, policy-making process in China, "One China Two systems" policy and how he makes personal decisions.

The International Relations Department of IAU expressed the deepest gratitude to Mr. Ronald for thought-provoking meeting and hopes for further meetings.

 

 
 
 
 
 

On November 26, at Alatoo International University for students of the Department of International Relations was organized an information training. The guests at this training were volunteers from the Red Crescent of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is one of the first humanitarian organizations in the world, which has been functioning since 1863. During the training, students learned about the history of the organization, its activities and the adoption of the Geneva Conventions. They also learned when Kyrgyzstan joined this organization and what laws it ratified. The training ended with various questions and answers. Students showed interest in volunteering at the Red Crescent.

After the training, representatives of the Red Crescent were handed a letter of appreciation on behalf of our university for their contribution to the expansion of our students' knowledge. 

 
 

UNDP Training on Countering Gender Discrimination

On March 6, 2019, a one-day training on countering gender discrimination was held at Ala-Too International University. 3rd year students of International Relations department actively participated in this event organized with the support of the project by UNDP and Foreign Affairs Ministry of Finland “Widening access to justice for legal empowerment in the Kyrgyz Republic”. ‘The project aims to promote legal empowerment of vulnerable populations in the Kyrgyz Republic, with a focus on rural women, children and youth at risk, and persons with disabilities, by improving their access to justice and legal aid in compliance with international human rights standards and recommendations’.

The students were acquainted with prejudices and stereotypes, different forms of discrimination against women and men, methods of confrontation and prevention of this phenomenon. Coach Nurzhan Estebesova organized interesting entertaining games and exercises that contributed to the increase and strengthening of students' knowledge on human rights. They actively participated in discussions, expressed their opinions and suggested ways to solve the problem.

Department of International Relations expresses deepest gratitude to the representatives of UNDP in Kyrgyzstan Meri Bekeshova and Nurzhan Estebesova for organizing such an effective training.
